I am now on HU482, back to Beijing——just a suitable time for looking back to my life this month. How time flies! Just can’t imagine that I got to the United States 1 month ago for the first time. The life here is far beyond my expectation, which would definitely turn out to be an unforgettable experience in my life. I have gained a lot and got a meaningful and fulfill time.
Initially, I’d love to talk about what I have learned this month. First, we’ve had several research topics about energy storage and conversion materials like: materials for electrochemical capacitors, graphene for energy storage and conversion, three dimension graphene, black titania for energy conversion, photocatalysis materials, materials for lithium ion battery, thin film solar cell CIGS applications and so on… Professor L showed us some basic knowledge about the preparation, performance, application and limit of those typical materials, which gave me a sketch of this field that I hadn’t known before. He also spent a lot of time discussing the progress his group had made in Ceramics Institute, which included some interesting stories, unforgettable experiences and some unique findings that couldn’t be learned by simply reading some articles. Besides, he often talked about his research life in the past several years, which gave us kind of reference and expectations for our lives in the future. Second, we have studied how to use Endnote from Mentor C. It is such a useful and powerful tool for writing a paper. I have also taken part in some courses hold by MIT libraries, to learn something about file management. These things have given me some practical skills that I could put into practice right away. Third, there were so such surprise and opportunities in MIT, which could definitely broaden our horizon. I have watched a competition about AI held by Tencent in MIT. There were 10 excellent teams needed to show their AI products’ competitiveness in China in order to get the investment. There were so many frontier ideas attracting me. I have also watched a exhibition held by School of Architecture and Planning, which showed many fancy objects. Actually, it would be kind of mechanical to just classify my gains in this month, since I have actually gained a lot at every moment, and those feelings were literally interacting with each other. I just feel grateful about this unique experience, since the thing I got has far outweigh some knowledge itself.
As for the life in Boston, I also have too much to say. As for the life in Boston, I also have too much to say. I appreciate it that Boston is the first stop where I can firstly get in touch with the American life and live a brand new lifestyle in advance. It’s such a beautiful city where I often got lost in its avenues, rivers, red houses and blue sky. Wasn’t I just in a drawing? Wasn’t I just walking in a fairy tale world? I admire those Bostoners who can stay here when leaves fall onto the ground and every street is decorated by yellow and red in October, since it’s already amazing enough in July. My camera did a good job this month thanks for the right place I lived in. Also, it would be the most incredible summer I have ever experienced, I mean, a summer with an average temperature of 23 celcius degree, exactly! Every day when I walked though the Harvard Bridge, watching people jogging by and little ships passing through the Charies River, I would plan the next visiting. I felt the originality——well I’m not sure whether it is a suitable word——especially compared with NYC. People chatted, studied, played or exercised almost anytime and anywhere. Maybe there is something with the concentrated universities and colleges here, so people just want to have a nice place for living a relatively simple life. I was not a Harvard or MIT eventually. However, even the outsiders could get deeply impressed when stepping into those places.
It is definitely sufficient for me to have a wonderful summer if I get the unforgettable scenery as well as atmosphere. But the people here and the people I met, gave me more reasons I got moved. I would appreciate my mentors and partner, anyway, I spent nearly half of days with them, and the company just matters much. Thanks for the mentor who led me to know a totally new field of knowledge, which gave me another possibility that I could work on in the future. Thanks for my partner who told me just go ahead to communicate with foreigners. Besides, no matter how many times I have complained, he just lent me a hand in time when I got into trouble. Thanks for my nice roommates, who made me feel so warm when I thought I would have to live alone for a month. Thanks for my aunt, sisters and uncle in NYC, who took care of me thoughtfully and made me feel at home. Thanks for the strangers I met in Boston——the stuff in Wholefoods, the Asian who helped my friend find his cell phone, the man in Newbury St, the professor of MIT and several RAs there. They were patient and friendly to listen to my oral English, which gave me a deep impression. Thanks for Professor O who let me know the biggest problem for my application experience and gave me more explicit definition of my future choice.
After looking back for the past one month, I just want to say it is a worthwhile journey. One month ago I was on HU481, nervous but excited. Now I am on HU482, thinking over how Boston life has changed me and which kind of person I am going to be. The answer would never be easy to find but will show up someday, Just been left for several hours but begin to miss walking on the Harvard Bridge…… Ah-ha! Such a magic city!Love Boston. Hope to be back there for some days again.
