To be admitted into a Massey University postgraduate programme applicants need to meet both the academic and English language requirements.

Academic entrance requirements for postgraduate programmes

Masters, postgraduate Diplomas and postgraduate Certificates

An appropriate undergraduate degree from a recognised tertiary institution.Doctorate Degrees (phD)

A Bachelor''s plus a Master''s degree, or a Bachelor with Honours equivalent to four years of study and attainment at First Class or 2:1 level, from a recognised tertiary institution. Additionally the Massey Academic Board may require that applicants have sufficient experience of individual research to benit from the course of study.English language entrance requirements

Students from a country where English is not the first language must obtain a minimum English Language competency level. Some programmes require a higher level of English Language competency than the minimum requirement indicated.

Massey University recognises the following English Language examinations:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

Only Academic IELTS scores are acceptable. A copy of your academic IELTS scores is acceptable as Massey is able to verify your results online. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

A copy of your TOEFL scores is acceptable as Massey is able to verify your results online. Test scores for English proficiency are valid for two years from the test date.

If you have taken a test other than IELTS or TOEFL, include it with your Application for Admission as an International Student so that it may be considered.

The minimum English Language proficiency for postgraduate Study

IELTS (Academic)

Minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0

For phD applicants, some Colleges may specify a higher level of attainment.

TOEFL

paper-based test (p) - Minimum score of 575, TWE 4.0; or Computer-based Test (C) - Minimum score 232, Essay Rating 4.0; or

Internet-based Test (iBT) - 90 (minimum writing 20)

For phD applicants, some Colleges may specify a higher level of attainment.

DAAD (For German students only)

A minimum B grade in each section.

For phD applicants, some Colleges may specify a higher level of attainment.

Exceptions to the above minimum English language proficiency for specific subjects

Communication Management and Journalism

7.0 overall with no individual band less than 6.5.

Not Accepted.

Education

6.5 overall. Reading and Writing bands must be at least 7.0, Listening and Speaking must be at least 6.0.
