过年小心，“杂物淹没”出没.

　　年前大扫除的时候，发现家里有一堆从来没有用过的东西，但是扔了又觉得可惜，只好继续把它们放在那里。结果，家里的杂物越来越多，可有用的却只有那么几样。有时候真的感觉自己要被这些杂物给淹没了!

　　Stuffocation is the feeling of being overwhelmed and weighed down by material things, i.e. 'stuff'. In practice this can mean different things to different people, but classic examples include regularly having to rummage through masses of junk you never use in order to get to the items you actually need, opening a wardrobe brimming with garments and not being able to find a thing to wear, and on receiving a gift, not feeling pleasure or gratitude but a surge of indifference or anxiety about what you're going to do with it.

　　Stuffocation指被各种物品、杂物淹没，导致不堪重负的感觉，我们可称之为“杂物窒息”。这种杂物窒息的情况对不同的人来说情形各异，不过，比较典型的例子有：找到你真正需要的东西之前需要先翻遍一堆永远都用不到的杂物，打开塞满衣物的衣柜却找不到一件能穿的衣服，或者，收到一份礼物的时候，感觉到的不是欣喜或者感激，而是一种漠然或者焦虑的心情，因为你开始想着这个礼物要怎么处理。

　　In short, rather than thinking of stuff in a positive way, believing that material things are usul or pleasant and enhance our lives, stuffocation embodies the idea that more things equate to more to deal with, more to organize, and so more hassle.

　　简而言之，stuffocation传递的信息并不是那么积极：物品越多并不能对生活有更多益处，也不会提高生活质量，而是你需要更多的时间去处理、归置这些物品，由此带来的麻烦事儿也更多。

　　我们看到stuffocation其实是从suffocate(窒息)一词演变而来的，由stuff+suffocation组合而成，同时也有形容词形式的stuffocated和stuffocating用来描述不同的情景。

　　The term stuffocation is chily associated with trend forecaster James Wallman, author of a book of the same name published in 2013. Wallman also promotes the concept through a dedicated website, stuffocation.org, which features blog posts encouraging people to de-stuffocate their lives. Some evidence for use of the term pre-dates Wallman's book by a couple of years however, going back to 2010.

　　Stuffocation这个说法与时尚预测师James Wallman密切相关，他zai 2013年写了一本名为Stuffocation的书，同时，他还在一个stuffocation.org的网站上宣传这个概念，他在发表的博文中，鼓励人们丢弃生活中多余的杂物，也就是咱们所说的“断舍离”。这个词更早的使用则要追溯到2010年。
