　　Knowledgeofsoilchemistry,particularlyinthecontextofsoilnutrientsupplyandplantuptake,isessentialtodevelopingnovelsustainablemanagementsystems.Thechemicalandphysicalpropertiesofsoilsandtheirspatialandtemporalvariabilityalsoprovideneededcontexttofullyunderstandhowplantrootsinteractwithsoilmicrobes.Investigationofprocessesthatoccurintherhizosphere,expertiseinthenewestmethodsforsoilanalysisaswellasinterestinthedevelopmentofnutrientsensortechnologiesaredesirable.Asoilrhizospherechemistwillbepartofaninterdisciplinaryteamincludingarootstressbiologist,soilmicrobiologists,entomologists,rangelandecologist,croppingsystemsexperts,processmodelers,statisticians,plantphysiologistsandbiochemists.Researchrelatedexpectationsincludepublicationinpeer-reviewedjournals,presentationsatscientificconferencesandsupervisionofgraduatestudentresearch.Theincumbentisexpectedtoobtainfederalandstategrantsfundstomaintainactiveprogramsinresearchandparticipateintherecruitmentofstudents.

　　TheminimumqualificationsareaPh.D.degreeorPh.D.inplacebydateofhireinSoilSciencewithemphasisonbiologicallymediatedsoilchemistrysuchasnutrienttransformations,nutrientavailabilityandspatialandtemporalchangesinnutrientform,andavailabilitynearandaroundplantroots.Prerredqualificationsincludepost-doctoralexperience,evidenceofastrongpublicationandgrantrecord,teachingexperience,excellentcommunicationskills,experienceworkinginmulti-disciplinaryteams;andpotentialforgrowthintoaleadershiprole.
