My Academic Experience and Ability

As it is known, passion can only light up dreams, while potentials and abilities can help achieve goals. In the first place, Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), one of the best universities in China, equipped me with enough potential power thanks to its strict and high-quality undergraduate education. Here, I have laid a solid foundation in theoretical learning and acquired the ability to independently solve problems. Although my study was somewhat interfered by my frequent and active participation in social activities, my ranking of 31/365 at NPU attested to my academic potential. Not that flawless as my GPA was, one should know that under the rigorous grading system of the University, which is renowned by its virtuous tradition as a military engineering school, even top 5% students can only obtain a GPA of 8x/100.

For example, in the debugging of a multi-machine simulation system of certain key plane, a system built on HLA architecture and run on KDRTI system, we found that the 3D Tactic Behavior Layer unstable and trembling. Noticing that the clock synchronization was going wrong, we were disappointed to discover that upgrading time synchronous standard was still of no use. Then with a further analysis, we found that each RTI node was composed of 3-4 computers, which resulted in out-of-synch data generated by a same node at a fixed time with the possible 5-6MS error of the internal data transfer. So the problem was solved by organizing node internal data via queue architecture. Another instance was in the realization of infrared simulation of certain battlield environment, in which the input source of infrared simulation only discriminates and receives the target data and visual images based on visible lights generated by target simulation program. It was a quite challenging task. To solve this problem, according to heat source simulation principles and relevant infrared image generation principles, we assumed the ambient temperature close to atmosphere temperature and identical with ambient temperature of the same material quality. We then employed three-channel scene signal by screenshot processing, in which image A was normal scene image, B aimless scene image, and C the scene image after special simulation by environmental modeling of similar material quality and color. The target pixel location was obtained by image A-B, which was followed by processing image C through transforming the RGB value of pixel into grey value of the temperature of the corresponding materials. Then the goal was realized by locating target infrared image according to the target pixel location and relevant target attitude. During the process of solving these actual problems, I learned how to expose and analyze the essence of problems by seeing through the appearance to perceive the essence of a problem so as to find the solutions to fundamentally crack the problem.

My Personality

My comprehensive quality also endows me with enough confidence to realize my career goal. Serving as a leader since primary school, I was then successfully selected as the president of Star Fire Environment Protection Volunteer Association. Only taking one and a half years, I, by virtue of my leadership and organizing ability, turned the association with glorious past and eight-year history, which had only 36.5RMB funds lt and faced the threat of breakup at that time, into the most influential environmental protection association among hundreds of colleges and universities in northwest China. With ficient plan making and reasonable task assigning, we once succeeded in hosting “*** Activity”, which attracted thousands of participants from more than twenty universities to participate and also won us high praises from provincial leaders.

Furthermore, my cheerful and humorous personality also equips me with excellent communication skills. I can always help reach an agreement when touching upon the sensitive matters related to the interest of each partner. Mature and rational personality help me to keep awake: I might not be a gifted designer of medical apparatus and instruments, but I can dedicate myself to this industry on the strength of my great forts. This sense of achievement, maybe not great enough to others, also enables me to keep the impetus to consistently learn and work. Thanks to my toughness and optimism, I have successfully finished many arduous tasks. For instance, in a rainy day, I once led 50-odd eighteen-year-old companions to build and dress a large-scale stage with more than 350 steel pipes with the length of 6m and weight of 25kg within 72 consecutive hours. My foresight and selflessness helped to persuade my companions to donate the highest award of 30000RMB we won from Chinese National Geography magazine to those university environmental protection agencies lack in funds so as to promote their development, because of its long-term significance.

About My English Ability

Although I have not obtained an ideal IBT score, I still have enough faith in my English foundation since I passed College English Test Band Four in one go during my freshman year (the passing rate of my class was only 25%). In the past two years after graduation, there were slim opportunities for me to use English due to work reasons, which lowered my English level greatly. However, when determining to apply for your esteemed university three months ago, I began to systematically review English and my English level has been increasing greatly. The achievement I made should be attributed to my three-hour review every night after 77 hours’ work every week. Therore, I believe if time permits, I can have excellent English proficiency, which will qualify me to pursue studies in the United States.

My practice and research experience has deeply strengthened my interest in relative disciplines of Signal Processing, and given me strong urge to pursue the deeper knowledge of my major.
