For nearly 100 years, the Journalism School has been preparing journalists in a program that stresses academic rigor, ethics, journalistic inquiry and professional practice. Degree Programs

The Graduate School of Journalism offers two master s degrees in journalism and a Ph.D. in Communications.

1.Master of Science

Master of Science The 10-month M.S. program offers aspiring and experienced journalists the opportunity to study the skills, the art, and the ethics of journalism by reporting and writing stories that range from short news pieces to complex narrative features.

2.Master of Arts

Master of Arts The prestigious Master of Arts program, inaugurated in 2005, is for experienced journalists who wish to study a specific subject area, including business, the arts, politics and science reporting.

3.Ph.D. in Communications

Ph.D. in Communications The Doctor of Philosophy degree gathers and focuses the resources of Columbia University on a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of communications. Students have the opportunity to craft their individual courses of study.
