Are you having trouble finding your other half? The reason might be your phone. This is the conclusion of a survey released recently by a matchmaking website in the US.
找不到你的另一半吗?原因可能是你的手机!这是美国一家婚介网站最近公布的一项调查结论。
The survey conducted among some 5,500 singles, shows that iPhone users don’t want to date Android users and vice versa. In addition, no matter what smart phone you own, you might want to get the latest model, and make sure the screen is not cracked because people are judgmental.
据这项对5500名单身人士的调查显示,iPhone机主不想和安卓用户交往,反之亦然。此外,不管你用的是什么手机,你都会想和使用最新型手机型号的人交往,但是要注意手机屏幕没有碎掉,因为人们都非常挑剔。
Some people may argue, "I’m not that shallow. I don’t judge people on what phone they use or what car they drive. All I care about is the person, the heart or the soul."
有的人可能会不同意,说:“我可没有那么肤浅。我不会通过一个人用什么手机、开什么车来评判他。我关心的只是这个人,他的心和灵魂。”
One should not be too quick to dismiss such results.
但是不应该过快地否定这一结论。
Like it or not, we are living in a world where our identities are connected with consumption. You are what you eat. You are what you wear. You are what you consume, or what you choose not to consume.
不管你喜欢不喜欢,在我们生活的这个世界里,我们的身份是和消费连接在一起的。你的身份和你吃的食物、穿的衣服、消费或不消费的东西密切相连。
One might argue these are only the outside components of a person. What one consumes may show one’s social status, but not whom one truly is deep down.

What do they mean by that? Who is the "real you?" Isn’t it what we believe in, our likes and dislikes, our habits and way of thinking? In addition, when we consume, part of the reason for choosing one brand is what that brand stands for, however shallow or artificial that "brand message" is.

Even if you ruse to be tricked by the commercials and ruse to own a smart phone, you are making a statement about yourself. Even the concept of "minimalism" has become in itself a type of consumption.
即使你拒绝广告、拒绝使用手机,你也在声明你到底是个怎样的人。即使“极简主义(minimalism)”这个概念本身也成为了一种消费。
So next time when you go matchmaking, stop checking height and appearances. Instead, look at their phones and their apps. You can choose what phone to buy, but you can’t choose how you look.
因此下次当你去相亲时,不要再管别人的身高和外貌了。相反,看看他们的手机和APP。你可以选择用什么手机,但是你不能选择你是什么样的人。
