A mother-of-four claims she made her entire family happier, saved more than $1,000 a month and improved her marriage - simply by throwing out her children’s toys.

Allie Casazza, 29, from Fayetteville, Arkansas, said she was depressed, ’struggling’ and ’overwhelmed’ by toys because she felt like she was constantly tidying them and they were not entertaining her children.

One day, without warning her children, Allie, decided to gather any toy that did not encourage ’meaningful imaginative play’ and throw them away.

Rather than causing upset she found the results were overwhelmingly positive and the experience was such a success that she continued to de-clutter the rest of her house.

Four years later, she claims that her family is not only completely clutter-free but also happier, more fulfilled and are completely converted to her new mind-set.

She said the shift to minimalism has improved her relationship with her husband, saved more than $1,000 a month on unnecessary purchases and enabled them to invest in more family experiences.

Allie also claims it has had an impact on their food intake - making them eat more simply and healthily.

She told Daily Mail Online: ’I was in a place where I had three of my four kids at the time, I was struggling every day feeling very overwhelmed.

Struggling with depression and feeling like I couldn’t focus on my kids because I was clearing up all the time...

Anything that wasn’t creating imaginative play, constructive play, I got rid of that.’

She added: ’Per year it has dinitely saved us thousands. I would go to Target all the time and go, "Oh, this is on sale." I would probably save about $1,000 a month on needless spending.
