“On average, middle-aged consumers devote 39 percent of their retail expenditure to department store products and services, while for younger consumers the average is only 25 percent. Since the number of middle-aged people will increase dramatically within the next decade, department stores can expect retail sales to increase significantly during that period. Furthermore, to take advantage of the trend, these stores should begin to replace some of those products intended to attract the younger consumer with products intended to attract the middle-aged consumer.”

3、Whether the increase of profit gained by attracting more middle-aged consumers will be offset

4、by the reduction of profit because of the loss of young consumers.

The surest way to increase our profits over the next couple of years, therore, is to add a clothing department along with an automotive supplies and repair shop. We should also plan to continue adding new departments and services, such as a restaurant and a garden shop, in subsequent years. Being the only store in the area that offers such a range of services will give us a competitive advantage over other local stores.”

1、时间关系不能推出因果关系。仅因药品专柜开在销售额增加前，就认为总体销售额增加时其结果，是错误的

2、错误类比。即使销售额增加是由药品专柜开设引起，也不代表开设其他专柜能增加销售额（顾客不一定更关注一条龙购物的便利）

3、增加销售额未必增加利润，增加服务也要增加成本
