Final score: Add up everything and this will be your “score”. The next page lists score ranges for different colleges. Because of subjective factors, the score will be off +/- 3 points, which can be significant. However, this will give you a general idea for where you stand as an applicant.

Caveat: this section is not set in stone

If you are lower than the admit score by more than 12 points, it is in your best interest to not apply.

*These are the averages within each group. The higher-end colleges may require a higher score.

Notes:

·In-state students often have an advantage for state schools in their respective state. The admit scores are usually lower by about 8-10 points.

·Early decision may lower the admit scores by around 3 points, on average

Obviously, some applicant pools are self-selective (i.e. only the brighter students would pay $75 to apply to Yale), so this is not a very strictly scientific table. However, you can get an idea of the quality needed to get into schools of a particular caliber.
