I am interested in pursuing a Geography course at University. Studying Geography will provide me with a better understanding of topical issues that affect the world around us, and also improve my presentational skills and independent learning skills. I am currently studying A-Levels Geography and Drama, which has provided me with a keen interest in current affairs; therore I am interested in areas such as development and environmental issues

I feel that these subject areas will provide me with a sound background to build a degree

My interests in Drama started early in College where I found that I enjoyed many of the techniques used within Drama. This gave me the confidence to take part in college productions, I have also developed my knowledge of Greek Tragedies, Physical Theatre and Monologues, and whilst studying an A-Level in Performing Arts I have developed my leadership skills and confidence to a mature standard

During my work experience I had the opportunity to work with a professional and extremely dedicated armourer. I used these two weeks to great advantage by broadening my knowledge in a diverse trade, which requires skill and extremely good technique. These two weeks helped me develop many skills such as concentration and independent working, work experience has also provided me with experience in a trade which can be used to fall back on, due to the fact that this is a family trade I therore I have a platform in which to start up

Within college I play an active role within college and also within my tutor group. I was elected student Council Representative, which has not only developed my communications skills but furthered my organisation skills. Within my tutor group I interact as much as possible by taking part in the tutor football team, and helping out my tutor with international dimensions week, which consists of helping younger students to develop skills they can use in the future. I have also worked with the P.E department by rereeing sports day football

As part of my personal development personal development, I helped in a Year 7 Drama class and used my own skills to help students out with plays, this taught me qualities of leadership such as motivation and patience

My hobbies include a wide range of sports, most notably rugby where I play at club level and county level, I hope to use this sporting background to play in a University team. I also take a great interest in football, golf and occasionally play tennis, I work part time within the College itself working in the Site Team, which has developed my reliability and communications skills

I regard myself to be an extremely friendly and hard working person. I have become very determined and independent as a result of pursuing my A-Levels; and hope this provides a good background for University. I look forward to the challenge of University life and the opportunities that will arise as a result.

I am choosing geography for one main reason and this reason has many subdividing links. I want to continue to study geography at higher education because I find it interesting. I enjoy this subject because of its content and the way in which it overlaps with so many other subjects. This therore makes geography a very usul subject and one I am very keen to continue to understand and develop. Because geography overlaps with many other subjects and that the course encompasses many techniques and skills I find it as being a very usul tool in the future workplace. I enjoy finding out how and most importantly why. If this includes why is such business parks situated on suburban fringes to why does the global distribution of earthquakes fect human activates in that particular area. I believe geography will develop my analytical skills which is important because I want to become an intelligence officer in the armed forces. I also like travelling and my knowledge and techniques have helped me explain many things like reasons for terraced farming in areas of Maltaand infrastructure in Florida. I teacher once said to me in secondary school

‘travel, and your start to notice things around you and your be able to understand what and why are certain things there’

I am currently studying A2 geography and biology. This is also accompanied by AS physical education and an AS physics which I completed in my first year. I am enjoying my courses this year because I find the content relatively easy to digest as opposed to physics last year. I found this subject fairly challenging last year because the content comprised itself mainly of numbers, figures, theories and set equations which where some what difficult to interpret. As opposed to the courses iamdoing this year where I find the content easier to consume because I can relate it to visual situations. I enjoyed parts of the course last year because there where noticeable links between the subjects. For instants geography and biology cross over more than once during the year. I have developed new skills such as my oral and working with others on coursework As I noted above my aspirations for the future lay within the armed forces. I need to have well developed analytical skills as well as good oral skills. Part of being an intelligence officers is being able to annotate pictures and many other sources of data i.e. infra red

Studying geography will help me develop these skills to a standard well recognised in my chosen field of profession. I’m also looking to travel in the future and my knowledge of geography will help me understand the places I visit in much more detail

I have had one experience in paid employment and one work experience placement. During my work experience I worked at H+S aviation. This is a company that repairs helicopters and light aircraft. During my time here I experienced the importance of meeting deadlines as these engines where urgently needed for the customer. I also established working with a team and co operating with many departments. One important skill I learned is attention to detail/ this was very important because the slightest of inaccuracy could cause the aircraft engine to malfunction causing death to the customer. During my paid employment I worked at a café in ASDA. I learned many important lessons here like health and safety along with food hygiene. I also exercised working in a busy environment and good communication and team skills were necessary to achieve the goals. I feel that many of the skills I have learnt are relevant not just to geography but life in its self. Team skills may be put to good use in a fieldwork situation as well as meeting deadlines and attention to detail. These all figure in some aspect of the course and university life in general

I enjoy sporting activities a lot and they are important in social well being. I enjoy playing golf and especially football. I have reached semi professional for Fareham town where I scored the winning goal on my debut at this level, being only the third player to ever to do this. I have also had trials with the major south coast professional sides such as Portsmouth, Southampton and Bournemouth. I enjoy leisure activities such as fishing and camping and I go away regularly in the summer to carry out these activities

I also enjoy socialising with friends at the weekends but football usually takes precedence over socialising. There are specific areas around the city where these can be exercised together. I enjoy spending time with my family, either going out for the evening, spending the weekend camping and fishing or just play football or golf.

My interest in Geography was first sparked when I was only five, when I went on holiday to Denmark. I wanted to know where Denmark was, why we had to go on a ferry, what the people there were like, what the land was like, and a million other questions. Ever since then I have had an interest in the world around me, countries, and the people and landscapes there. This is why I have chosen to study Geography.

I am currently studying Geography, Environmental Science, and Biology at A2 level, and I enjoy, and find all of these subjects interesting. I am particularly interested in Ecology, and Geography, Environmental Science, and Biology all have sections studying Ecology. I found the Geography AS level interesting, as we studied a wide range of topics, from the feasibility of building a bypass around Ambleside, to studying coastlines. Studying coastlines helped me to further understand the fects of something we did in Environmental Science, global climate change.

Studying Biology has given a scientific edge to my knowledge of Geography, particularly human Geography, e.g. studying different crops grown in different regions of the world.

I also studied I.C.T to AS level, and found it very usul, as I am now proficient in the use of a computer. In school, but outside of lessons I took part in the Young Enterprise scheme, where I was the Marketing Director of our company, Horizon. Working as Marketing Director helped me to understand people, because I had to market our company to the general public. Leading the marketing team, gave me leadership qualities, and also helped to develop my people skills. At our weekly meetings I had to give a report to the company on how everything was going, and this has boosted my confidence in speaking to groups of people.

For my work experience I did one week at The Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) in Edinburgh, where I did a variety of tasks, such as developing photos, and annotating them. This gave me experience of working in a typical office environment.

My second week of work experience was at the Archaeological Resource Centre (ARC) in York, where I was involved in showing Primary School children around various Viking exhibits. Whilst here, although I was helping children to learn, I also learned things myself, sometimes Geography related, e.g. many experts think one reason the Vikings started raiding the rest of Europe was because there were poor conditions for agriculture, and the Vikings wanted land with milder conditions. As I was working with children here, I also improved some of my skills, for instance I had to have greater patience, and learned to explain things in a simpler way.

In my spare time I particularly enjoy cinema, and reading, and I would be interested in joining a film club. When I don&apost have a book to read, I am never quite as happy, and at the moment I am reading Catch 22, by Joseph Heller, and am finding it a very good read.

I am enthusiastic about Geography and intend to work hard for a Geography based degree. I have chosen to go to university, as it will provide me with the opportunity to obtain many skills, social and academic, which will be usul in many possible future careers. I am aware that taking a degree is a big commitment, and will require a lot of work, and a lot of my time, but I am prepared for this, and won&apost let it be an obstacle on my route to graduation.
